Mark Wassell Speaks to Superintendents on Wage & Hour Issues

Posted on February 11, 2020

Mark Wassell

Mark Wassell, Shareholder, will speak on Wednesday at the monthly Superintendent Advisory Council meeting held by Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV. He will provide a wage & hour update, including information on the Department of Labor's Final Rule, issued September 24, 2019 and effective January 1, 2020.

The final rule updates the salary thresholds necessary to exempt executive, administrative, or professional employees from the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage and overtime pay requirements, and allow employers to count a portion of certain bonuses (and commissions) toward meeting the salary level.

At Knox Law, he counsels and defends employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. He represents employers in a range of sectors including manufacturing, financial services, healthcare and education. Mr. Wassell’s practice includes hiring and termination issues, claims of discrimination and harassment, drug testing, employee handbooks, employment and severance agreements, grievance arbitration, and collective bargaining. He frequently handles matters before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, and similar state agencies. He also conducts in house training programs for employers on a number of employment topics and speaks often to a variety of business and HR groups throughout western Pennsylvania and beyond.
