Mark Wassell and Matt Lasher Speak for HVA Law Seminar

Mark Wassell and Matt Lasher are both presenting during HVA Senior Living Alliance's annual Law Seminar on Thursday, June 9.

The annual seminar, which has been offered as a webinar since 2020, offers continuing education for nursing home administrators and caters mostly to representatives from long-term care facilities in our region.

Mark Wassell

Mark Wassell will present "The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): Are You Exercising Your Rights As an Employer?" The program will review elements of this law that commonly create difficulty for employers.

Mark counsels and defends employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. He represents employers in a range of sectors including manufacturing, financial services, healthcare and education. His practice includes hiring and termination issues, claims of discrimination and harassment, drug testing, employee handbooks, employment and severance agreements, grievance arbitration, and collective bargaining.

Matthew (Matt) Lasher

Matt Lasher will speak about "Constant Issues in an Ever-Changing Workplace: Sexual Harassment, Employee Handbooks and Unemployment Compensation." The presentation will include interactive case studies.

Matt concentrates his practice on labor & employment law. He assists clients in navigating various workplace matters including the unemployment system, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidance, and more. He drafts and reviews employee handbooks, employment agreements and federal employment litigation documents.

Also speaking will be Bryan Smolock, Director of the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. He will give a compliance update, including mandatory overtime, minimum wage act, the "8 and 80" rule and more.
