Knox Law Mourns Death of John Beatty
John Beatty died on October 30, 2016 at age 80.
He began practicing law with Knox Law in 1962. His varied practice included defending health care professionals and representing governmental entities including the Erie School District, the Millcreek Township School District and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He was involved in landmark litigation questioning whether nonprofits such as hospitals were entitled to exemption from real estate taxes. His success in this litigation resulted in a change in the real estate exemption laws in Pennsylvania. He retired in 1999.
"John was a valued member of our firm and was one of the firm’s “most unforgettable characters,” with a sense of humor that all who knew him appreciated," said Knox Law President Thomas Tupitza.
We extend our condolences to his wife Barbara and his family. Mr. Beatty's full obituary may be viewed here.
